Abstract

Keywords: Correlation, Reading Ability and TOEFL Score in Reading Section. This title of thesis was “The Correlation Between Students‟Reading Ability and TOEFL Score in Reading Section of the Eighth Semester English Education Study Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang”. The limitation of the problem limited on “The Correlation Between Students‟Reading Ability and TOEFL Score in Reading Section of the Eighth Semester English Education Study Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang”. The formulation of the problem „‟is there any Correlation Between Students‟Reading Ability and TOEFL Score in Reading Section of the Eighth Semester English Education Study Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang?”. The objectives of this study was “to investigated and described the correlation between students‟ reading ability and TOEFL score in reading section of the eighth semester English education study program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang”. In doing this study, correlational design was used by the researcher. The sample of this study were 39 students of the eighth semester of English education study program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UMP). For collected the data, the researcher collecting the data from Language Center Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang and doing reading test to the students. In analyzing the question of reading ability test and TOEFL score in reading section the researcher used “Pearson Product Moment Correlation”. The results of the calculation showed that there was weak correlation between students‟ reading ability and TOEFL score in reading section. Since the obtained coefficient (r-obtained) was 0.098, it is related to Arikunto table (2013), if 0.000 to 0.200 was included in weak correlation. In conclusion there was correlation between students‟ reading ability and TOEFL score in reading section. Therefore the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected.
