Abstract

Key words: Students’ perception, book and internet This thesis entitled “The Differences of Students’ perception in using book and internet as Learning references of English Education Study Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang”. The objectives of this study were to investigate which more dominant source (book or Internet) used as learning reference by English Education Study Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang and what students’ perception English Education Study Program of the differences between book and Internet. The method of this study was descriptive qualitative. The population of this study was the second, fourth, and sixth semester English Education Study Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. The sample of this study was 65 students taken based on convenience sampling technique. The data were obtained by using close and open ended questionnaire. For analyzing the data, the researcher used descriptive qualitative. The result of this study found that English Education Study Program students prefer to choose Internet than book as their learning reference. It was found from 65 students, there were 60 chose Internet and there were only 5 chose book. Moreover, English Education Study Program students prefer to use Internet as their learning references because using Internet were easy to use, not spend much time, easier and faster for finding what they want. Meanwhile, they believe using book were it was boring, read one by one page, and hard to find information. Then it could be concluded that all semester more dominantly was used to Internet as learning reference.
