Abstract

Construction work is one of the sectors with a relatively high risk of accidents and occupational diseases. Such conditions not only cause losses for workers but also affect productivity, quality, and the overall achievement of project objectives. The implementation of occupational safety and health (OSH) policies is therefore a fundamental aspect in safeguarding workers’ welfare while enhancing company performance. However, in practice, various nonconformities are still found in the field, potentially hindering the effectiveness of OSH implementation. The main problem addressed in this study is to identify which OSH factors influence the performance of construction workers and to determine the most dominant factor affecting performance in the construction of the KRIS Inpatient Building Extension at Moh Hoesin Hospital Palembang by PT. Bumi Karsa. This research employed a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. Primary data were collected through questionnaires distributed to project workers selected using purposive sampling based on specific criteria. The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability to ensure data accuracy. Data analysis was conducted with the assistance of Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 25. The research variables included top management commitment, OSH regulations and procedures, worker involvement and communication, worker competence, and the work environment. This approach enabled the researcher to systematically and measurably identify the relationship between OSH implementation and employee performance. The findings indicate that all five factors influence the performance of construction workers. The most dominant factor is supervision of OSH implementation, which has been proven to improve worker compliance and reduce the risk of workplace accidents. Overall, OSH implementation in the project has been carried out fairly well, although some negative findings remain to be addressed. These results emphasize that consistent supervision and improved quality of OSH implementation are key to maintaining productivity and enhancing the performance of construction workers.
