Abstract
This research is a mortar study using silicon carbide as a cement substitution material and the addition of superplasticizer by 1,5 %. The purpose of this research is to determine the compressive strength and density of mortar by 0%, 6%, 9%, 12%, 15%, and 18% silicon carbide which substitute as cement in the mixture. This research used an experimental method with total of 30 samples. The test objects consisted of 0%, 6%, 9%, 12%, 15%, and 18% silicon carbide which substitute as cement. Each mortar variations made 5 test specimens with a size of 5 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm. According to the results of compressive strength and density, the highest results of compressive strength and density is in the mixture with 15 % silicon carbide and superplasticizer 1,5 %. It can be concluded that the mixture of silicon carbide as cement substitution has good effect with produces high mortar compressive strength that meets the standard of ASTM.
