Abstract
This research is a concrete study using rice husk ash as (RHA) as a substitute for epoxy resin in the production of polymer concrete, with a focus on microstructural analysis using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The research was conducted with substitution variations of RHA at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of the total epoxy resin volume. The test results indicate that the addition of RHA significantly affects the morphology and pore distribution within the polymer concrete. The methods used include testing the physical and mechanical properties of the materials, compressive strength tests at 28 days of curing, and microstructural analysis using SEM. SEM was utilized to observe changes in pore distribution, material bonding, and the internal morphology of polymer concrete due to the RHA substitution. Morphological data were analyzed using ImageJ and Origin software to produce particle distribution histograms. The results showed that the addition of rice husk ash significantly influences the microstructure of polymer concrete. A substitution of 10% to 15% RHA yielded a denser and more homogeneous microstructure, with a more uniform pore distribution and fewer voids within the concrete matrix. This improvement directly enhanced compressive strength and durability. In contrast, substitution up to 20% reduced performance, as excessive RHA content disrupted the bonding structure between particles. Keywords: Rice husk ash, epoxy resin, polymer concrete, scanning electron microscope (SEM)
