Abstract

ABSTRACT Pajria, Nurul 2024. Students’ Perception of Ice Breaking to Motivate Learning English of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 11 Palembang. Thesis, English Education Study Program, Sarjana Degree (S1), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. Advisor: (1) Dr. Tri Rositasari S.Pd.,M.Pd. and (2) Sherly Marliasari, S.Pd.,M.Pd Keywords: Students’ perception, ice breaking,and motivate learning english. This thesis is entitled Students’ Perception of Ice Breaking to Motivate Learning English of the Eighth Grade Students at SMP Negeri 11 Palembang. The main problem of this research is “What are the Students’ Perceptions of Ice Breaking to Motivate for Learning English at SMP Negeri 11 Palembang?”. The objective of this research is to find the Students’ Perception of Ice Breaking to motivate learning English at SMP Negeri 11 Palembang. It was hoped that the result of analyzing students’ perception of ice breaking to motivate learning English in the school would be useful information for Students, teachers, and the school. The researcher used a qualitative method to describe the data descriptively. The population of this research was all of the Eight Grade Students. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling. The sample was 34 students in the eighth grade at SMP Negeri 11 Palembang. The data were calculated and analyzed by using the percentage analysis. The findings showed that there were most of the students agreed that ice-breaking activities are being able in the school, It can be seen in the total of each point, that students’ perception of ice-breaking activities in a class (180) Agree and (149) Strongly Agree. The researcher could conclude that some of the students think ice-breaking activities in class can influence their grade level of focus on learning, they also agreed that ice-breaking activities in class make the class atmosphere exciting and fun.
