Abstract
Short circuit on the battery can affect the performance and capacity of the battery, and this can lead to shorter battery life. Short circuits can also cause the battery to overheat and can even cause the battery to be damaged and cannot be used again. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference in the effect of a short circuit on the capacity and performance of FLA and VRLA batteries. Testing the short circuit on the battery using a Dummy load with a resistance of 0.3 ohm 40 Watt with a full charge battery condition. The results showed that the short circuit that occurred in the battery caused the FLA battery voltage to drop by 13% from the initial voltage of 13.53 Vdc, while in the VRLA battery the voltage reduction reaches 14% from the initial voltage of 12.99 Vdc. At the time of short circuit, both FLA and VRLA experienced an increase in current reaching three times the nominal current. From the research results it can be concluded that VRLA batteries have a fairly good endurance compared to FLA batteries after a short circuit occurs. Where VRLA batteries can last 20 minutes longer than FLA batteries, after a short circuit occurs and the battery is connected to the load, with the same total load of 240 watts.
