Abstract

Agustin Widiya, Rika 2021.The Code Switching Types Used by the Native English Teachers on Instagram. Thesis, English Education Study Program, Sarjana Degree (S1), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education,Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. Advisors: (1) Prof. Dr. Indawan syahri, M.Pd, (II) Finza Larasati, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: The Code Switching Types Used by the Native English Teachers on Instagram. This thesis entitled “The Code Switching Types Used by the Native English Teachers on Instagram.” The formulations of the problem were (1)What are the types of code switching used by the native English Teacher on Instagram? (2)What is the most common code switching Used by the Native English Teachers on Instagram?. The objectives of this research were (1) To find out the types of code switching used by that native English teachers on Instagram? (2)To find out the most common code switching types used by the native English teachers on Instagram?. The sample of this research is two Native English Teachers on Instagram there were Dennish Dannish @Gurukumrd (1.4M followers, 946 videos) and Dave Jephcott @londo_kampung (335,000 followers, 885 videos). the researcher analyzed 3 Instagram TV (IGTV) videos with the highest number of likes from each native English teacher ; ( istilah turunan dalam Bahasa Inggris, Synonym, The Difference between won’t and want, Bahasa Jawa vs Bahasa Inggris, Guru Bule Bahasa Inggris UNDERCOVER di sekolah, Guru ngajar Bahasa Inggris campur Bahasa Jawa ). After analizying it was found that The most common type of code switching used by both Native English Teacher was Inter-sentential Switching which was used in 30 Utterances. Then, it could be concluded that every Native English teachers on Instagram has different characteristics and Types of code switching in teaching English on Instagram.
