Abstract

KORELASI PARAMETER KUAT GESER TANAH GAMBUT PADA UJI TRIAXIAL UU DAN DIRECT SHEAR TEST ABSTRACT Yunita Yulia Putri1, Muhammad Arfan2, Revisdah3 This study aims to analyze the physical properties of sapric peat soil and its mechanical properties based on Triaxial Unconsolidated Undrained (UU) and Direct Shear tests on peat soil collected from the Mata Merah area, Palembang City. The laboratory tests included water content, specific gravity, bulk density, ash content, organic content, fiber content, and shear strength tests to determine the cohesion (c) and internal friction angle (φ) of the soil. The results indicate that the sapric peat soil has high water and organic contents, while its specific gravity and bulk density are relatively low, indicating a soil with low bearing capacity. The Triaxial UU and Direct Shear tests showed differences in the values of cohesion (c) and internal friction angle (φ) due to the different testing mechanisms; however, both methods were able to describe the shear strength characteristics of the peat soil. The relationship between cohesion and internal friction angle demonstrates a correlation that can be used as a basis for evaluating the shear strength behavior of sapric peat soil. Based on the findings, sapric peat soil at the study site requires appropriate treatment before being used as a foundation soil for construction. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for foundation design and ground improvement in peatland areas, as well as to provide geotechnical information on the characteristics of sapric peat soil for safe and sustainable construction planning.
