Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional phase characterized by various physical and hormonal changes, particularly in adolescent girls entering puberty. These changes can increase the risk of reproductive health issues, such as vaginal discharge, which is often influenced by genital hygiene practices or vulva hygiene. A lack of knowledge and the implementation of improper hygiene habits can trigger pathological vaginal discharge. This study aims to describe the vulva hygiene practices among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 03 Palembang. The research utilizes a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 100 adolescent girls in grades VII–IX who had experienced menarche, selected using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through a vulva hygiene questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed univariately. The results showed that the majority of respondents fell into the "fair" category for vulva hygiene behavior, totaling 70 respondents (70%), while 30 respondents (30%) were in the "good" category; no respondents were found in the "poor" category. Most respondents had implemented some correct vulva hygiene practices, yet there were still behaviors that potentially increased the risk of reproductive health disorders. This study concludes that the description of vulva hygiene among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 03 Palembang is predominantly in the fair category. Consequently, continuous reproductive health education is required to improve vulva hygiene behaviors.
