Abstract

Contextual science learning that is based on the potential of natural resources presents a challenge for teachers in helping students improve their science process skills (SPS). This is supported by initial observations indicating that one of the problems faced in science learning at MTs Nurul Ula, Burai Village, is the limited use of teaching materials that explore the surrounding environment, such as local wisdom, as well as the minimal implementation of learning models that encourage students’ active involvement in scientific processes. These issues have resulted in suboptimal development of students’ SPS. Burai Village possesses a swamp ecosystem with high biodiversity, which can be utilized as a learning resource grounded in local wisdom. This study aimed to assess the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of student worksheets. The research employed the R&D method using the 4D model by Thiagarajan et al. (1976). The subjects were 22 seventh-grade students at MTs Nurul Ula, Burai Village. Research instruments included expert validation questionnaires, practicality assessments, and pretest–posttest evaluations to measure the effectiveness of the developed product. The validation assessment of the developed LKPD indicated a high level of validity, with an average score of 94.74% in the very high category. The practicality assessment showed that the LKPD was highly practical, with an average teacher rating of 95% classified as very high category and a student readability score of 75% classified as high category. The effectiveness of the LKPD, evaluated using a one-group pretest–posttest design, demonstrated positive results, with an N-gain score of 0.51 classiffed as moderate, indicating that the LKPD had a significant impact on improving students’ SPS. In conclusion, the swamp vegetation biodiversity LKPD integrated with guided inquiry has been proven to be valid, practical, and effective in enhancing students’ science process skills and ecological understanding.
