Abstract

This study aims to identify internal and external factors that influence the development of salted and smoked fish UMKM in Rantau Bayur Village and to formulate the right strategy for the development of the salted and smoked fish processing industry in Rantau Bayur Village. This research was conducted in Rantau Bayur Permata Village, Rantau Bayur District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. The research method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach, for sampling used is a purposive sampling technique consisting of UMKM Actors, Rantau Bayur Village Head, Head of BUMDes Unit, Local Fishermen and Head of Fishery Product Processing and Marketing Division. Data collection methods used in this study are interviews, observation and documentation. Data processing methods used are editing, coding and tabulation. The data analysis method used in this study is SWOT analysis. The results of the study indicate that internal factors include strengths such as good relationships with customers, consistent product quality, timely delivery, support from village heads, cooperation with fishermen, and use of own capital. However, weaknesses include low adoption of technology, limited training, minimal digital marketing, inadequate infrastructure, unattractive packaging, and limited legality and access to assistance information. Meanwhile, external factors include opportunities in the form of equipment assistance, training, product exhibitions, and BUMDes support. The threats include limited assistance, competition between regions, difficult market access and capital, expensive modern equipment, instability of raw materials and fish prices, and the absence of official business permits and management from BUMDes. Meanwhile, the strategy that can be applied to the development of the salted and smoked fish processing industry in Rantau Bayur Village to support the sustainability of the local economy is a strategy that supports a diversification strategy.
