Abstract

Road infrastructure development often faces challenges in the form of unstable subgrade conditions, one of which is silt, which has low bearing capacity and is prone to changes in properties due to water content. This study aims to determine the effect of adding ceramic waste powder and cement on increasing the unconfined compression strength (UCS) of silt soil. Soil samples were taken from Betung Barat Village, Abab District, PALI Regency, and then tested at the Soil Mechanics Laboratory of Muhammadiyah University of Palembang. The mixture variations used were 8% ceramic powder with 0%, 2%, 3%, and 4% cement additions, with curing times of 0, 6, and 9 days. The results showed that the original silt soil had a low unconfined compressive strength of approximately 0.23 kg/cm² (categorized as slightly stiff). After the addition of 8% ceramic powder and various cement variations, the UCS value increased significantly. The highest increase was achieved with a mixture of 3% cement + 8% ceramic powder with a 9-day curing time, resulting in an unconfined compressive strength of 1.12 kg/cm² (categorized as hard silt). However, with the addition of 4% cement, the UCS value decreased compared to the 3% variation. This indicates that the use of ceramic powder and cement is effective for stabilizing silt soil, with the optimum mixture being 3% cement content and 9-day curing time.
