Abstract

ABSTRACK Flood-prone areas are areas with frequent or high potential for flooding. These flood-prone areas can be assessed based on natural watershed parameters, including landforms, meandering/river diversions, damming by river branches, drainage, average watershed slope, and management parameters, such as the presence or absence of flood control structures. This study aims to analyze the primary causes of flooding in Curup Village, Tanah Abang District, Pali Regency. The research will evaluate the capacity of existing drainage systems to accommodate runoff in Curup Village, Tanah Abang District, Pali Regency, and analyze cross-section capacity designs for appropriate flood management based on field conditions. The data used are maximum rainfall data from the 2019-2023 period from the South Sumatra Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and direct field observations of existing conditions and drainage systems. The analysis shows that high-intensity rainfall, changes in land use, and drainage systems clogged with waste and sedimentation are the main factors causing flooding. The Log Pearson Type III distribution was used to determine the design rainfall, which showed a significant increase at return periods of 2 to 10 years. Furthermore, low evapotranspiration and low soil absorption capacity exacerbated the situation. The study concluded that drainage system improvements, land use control, and community-based mitigation efforts are needed to reduce flood risk in the area.
