Abstract
This study analyzes the factors causing energy loss in the clean water distribution network of PDAM Tirta Betuah Banyuasin 1. Energy loss can arise from pipe friction, bends, changes in pipe cross-section, and elevation differences. These conditions reduce distribution efficiency to customers, making it essential to identify the magnitude and main causes of energy loss in the system. The research applied a quantitative approach using primary data from field surveys and secondary data from PDAM documents. The analysis involved calculating discharge and flow velocity, followed by estimating energy losses due to friction, bends, cross-sectional changes, and elevation differences with hydraulic formulas. The processed data was then used to determine energy loss in each pipe segment and to identify critical points in the network. The findings showed that the largest energy loss occurred in the pipe section N3–N5, reaching 59.09226 meters with a flow velocity of 4.23086 m/s. In contrast, the smallest loss was observed in section J1–J2, which was only 0.00121 meters with a velocity of 0.020085 m/s. To minimize losses, it is recommended to use pipes with low friction coefficients, reduce sharp bends, and improve distribution network design. These efforts are expected to enhance system efficiency and improve PDAM service quality for the community.
