Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) molarity variations and the addition of 5% rice husk ash (RHA) as a partial replacement for fly ash on the physical and mechanical properties of geopolymer mortar. The NaOH molarity variations used were 8 M, 10 M, 12 M, 14 M, and 16 M. The curing process was carried out in an oven at 60°C for 24 hours, while the compressive strength test was conducted at the ages of 14, 21, and 28 days. The parameters analyzed in this study included the bulk density and compressive strength of the geopolymer mortar. The results showed that increasing the NaOH molarity up to 14 M had a positive effect on both the bulk density and compressive strength of the mortar. The highest bulk density was obtained at MG–14 M at the age of 28 days, reaching 2156.9 kg/m³, while the maximum compressive strength achieved was 31.74 MPa at the same curing age. However, at 16 M molarity, the mechanical properties decreased due to the formation of a less homogeneous microstructure and the presence of voids within the mortar. It can be concluded that the variation in NaOH molarity significantly influences the properties of geopolymer mortar. The optimal composition was achieved at 14 M molarity with the addition of 5% rice husk ash to fly ash, producing a dense structure and high compressive strength.
