Abstract
RILITA, The potential Feed Source for Apis mellifera Honey Bees on Campus C, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, Pulau Semambu Village, North Indralaya Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province (supervised by DELFY LENSARI and AGUS SUKARYANTO). Campus C of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang (UMP) is a land area owned by Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, within which there is an Apis mellifera honey bee cultivation. Campus C of UM Palembang has an area of 74.06 hectares consisting of shrubs, Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) plantations, Star Fruit (Averrhoa carambola) orchards, and Citrus (Citrus sp) orchards, as well as other fruits that can provide nectar and pollen as feed for Apis mellifera bees. Thus, Campus C can function as a habitat for honey bee cultivation businesses. The objectives of this research are to analyze the distribution of vegetation types that serve as feed sources for Apis mellifera honey bees on Campus C of UM Palembang, to analyze the diversity and richness of vegetation types present on Campus C of UM Palembang, and to analyze the habitat characteristics to support the growth and productivity of Apis mellifera honey bee colonies on Campus C of UM Palembang. This research uses a mixed research method that combines descriptive qualitative and quantitative forms. The population distribution in the shrub cluster includes Acacia (Acacia mangium), Pulai tree (Alstonia scholaris), and Gelam tree (Melaleuca cajuputi). In the oil palm plantation cluster, the species found is Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis). In the fruit orchard cluster, the species found is Acacia (Acacia mangium). The species diversity (H') in the shrub cluster falls into the medium category. The species richness in the shrub cluster falls into the high species richness category. In the oil palm plantation cluster, H' falls into the medium diversity category, while the species richness in this cluster is categorized as high species richness. The H' of the fruit orchard cluster is in the high category. The species richness of the shrub cluster is categorized as high. In developing an Apis mellifera honey bee cultivation business, Campus C of UMP shows significant potential to be used as a location for Apis mellifera honey bee cultivation due to the support of adequate feed availability and suitable environmental conditions for the development and productivity of Apis mellifera honey bees.
