Abstract
This research aims to determine the effect of adding pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete. Pineapple leaf fiber was selected due to its excellent mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength, lightweight characteristics, and environmentally friendly nature. The study utilized PALF variations of 2%, 4%, and 5% by weight of cement, with fiber lengths of 5 mm, 7.5 mm, and 10 mm in normal concrete. Concrete specimens in the form of cylinders measuring 15 cm × 30 cm were used, with a total of 60 samples tested at 28 days of age. The research method employed was experimental laboratory testing, which began with material testing, mix design preparation based on SNI 7656:2012, mixing, casting, curing, and testing for compressive and splitting tensile strength. The results showed that the addition of pineapple leaf fiber positively influenced the increase in both compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of the concrete. The optimal improvement was achieved with a 2% to 4% fiber addition with a length of 7.5 mm, providing the most effective enhancement of the concrete’s mechanical performance. The use of pineapple leaf fiber offers an innovative solution for utilizing agricultural waste while enhancing concrete performance, presenting an environmentally friendly alternative in the field of construction.
