Abstract
This research aims to characterize the crystal phases in polymer concrete with the addition of rice husk ash using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Rice husk ash is an agricultural waste rich in silica content, offering potential as a partial substitute in environmentally friendly concrete mixtures. In this study, polymer concrete was produced with varying rice husk ash compositions of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% by total weight, using epoxy resin as the primary binder. The objective was to examine the influence of rice husk ash on the crystalline structure of polymer concrete, particularly in identifying amorphous and crystalline phases. XRD analysis results showed that higher percentages of rice husk ash led to an increase in amorphous phase intensity, indicated by broader and less intense diffraction peaks. This suggests that the rice husk ash contains reactive amorphous silica, which contributes positively to the mechanical and microstructural properties of polymer concrete. This study demonstrates that rice husk ash can serve not only as a sustainable partial binder replacement but also as an enhancer of the overall performance of polymer concrete, supporting its application as an eco-friendly construction material.
