Abstract
ARANG AKTIF BIJI ASAM JAWA UNTUK PENURUNAN WARNA DAN ZAT ORGANIK PADA AIR GAMBUT Adelya Carensnina1 , Ummi Kalsum2, Erna Yuliwati3 Program Studi Teknik Kimia Fakultas Teknik, Universitas MuhammadiyahPalembang - Indonesia carensnina.adelya@gmail.com ABSTRAK Pemanfaatan air gambut untuk dijadikan air bersih memerlukan pengolahan terlebih dahulu. Salah satu pengolahan yang dapat dilakukan yaitu dengan menggunakan arang aktif. Pembuatan arang aktif dapat menggunakan biji-biji tumbuhan, salah satunya biji asam jawa. Biji asam jawa saat ini belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal. Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan pembuatan arang aktif biji asam jawa melalui aktivasi fisika dan kimia. Proses aktivasi fisika dilakukan pada suhu 500⁰C selama 1 jam dengan furnace dan aktivasi kimia menggunakan H3PO4 10% selama 24 jam. Arang aktif biji asam jawa yang diperoleh telah memenuhi standar mutu SNI 06-3730-1995 tentang karbon aktif. Adsorben yang terbentuk dikarakterisasi dengan menggunakan SEM-EDX dan FTIR. Kemudian arang aktif diadsorpsikan dengan air gambut dengan konsentrasi 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa arang aktif biji asam jawa dapat menurunkan kadar warna dari 83,13 Pt-Co menjadi 11,55 Pt-Co yang telah memenuhi standar baku mutu. Serta kadar COD dari 144 Mg/L jadi 40 Mg/L, kadar BOD dari 101,43 Mg/L jadi 13,72. Namun belum memenuhi standar baku mutu. Dan juga setelah proses adsorpsi arang aktif biji asam jawa dapat menaikkan pH air gambut yang semula konsentrasi awalnya adalah 3,31 menjadi 7,32 yang berarti telah memenuhi standar baku mutu tentang pH pada air. Kata Kunci : Biji Asam Jawa, Arang Aktif, Air Gambut, Adsorpsi ABSTRACT Utilization of peat water to make clean water requires processing first. One of the treatments that can be done is by using activated charcoal. Making activated charcoal can use plant seeds, one of which is tamarind seeds. Tamarind seeds are currently not used optimally. In this research, activated charcoal from tamarind seeds has been made through physical and chemical activation. The physical activation process was carried out at 500⁰C for 1 hour in a furnace and chemical activation using 10% H3PO4 for 24 hours. The activated charcoal from tamarind seeds obtained complies with the quality standard of SNI 06-3730-1995 regarding activated carbon. The adsorbent formed was characterized using SEM-EDX and FTIR. Then the activated charcoal was adsorbed with peat water with a concentration of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%, the results of the study found that the activated charcoal of tamarind seeds could reduce the color content from 83.13 Pt-Co to 11.55 Pt-Co which had been meet quality standards. As well as COD levels from 144 Mg/L to 40 Mg/L, and BOD levels from 101.43 Mg/L to 13.72. However, it does not meet the quality standards. And also after the adsorption process of activated charcoal from tamarind seeds can increase the pH of peat water, which was originally at an initial concentration of 3.31 to 7.32, which means that it meets the quality standards regarding pH in water.
