Abstract
Not all soils have a good bearing capacity, and are suitable for use as construction base materials. Clay soil is a type of soil that has a low bearing capacity. The function of soil as a building foundation requires stable soil conditions. Therefore, the soil needs to be treated with a special treatment to improve the unfavorable properties of the soil by means of stabilization. Stabilization is an action taken to improve the technical properties of the soil. Another alternative for stabilizing clay is to add firewood ash and cement to the soil. Firewood ash contains chemicals that can be used for soil stabilization due to the pozzolanic nature of these chemicals. The firewood ash in question is wood ash that has passed the No. 200 filter. Portland cement has a chemical content that can be used for soil stabilization. The portland cement in question is portland cement that has passed the No. 200 filter. The tests to be carried out are compaction testing and free compressive strength testing. The variations of the mixture of firewood ash and portland cement used were 0%, 4%+4% cement, 8%+4% cement and 12% +4% cement from dry soil weight with curing time of 3 days and 7 days. From the Unconfined Compression Test with variations in the percentage of firewood ash mixture of 4%, 8%, 12% and the percentage of portland cement 4% in each sample, it was found that the longer the curing process, the greater the compressive strength of the soil. The greatest compressive strength of the soil lies in 7 days of curing with the highest compressive strength in the additional variation of a mixture of 12% wood ash + 4% cement, which is 1.613 kg/cm2 with a Cu value of 0.773 kg/cm2. In the results of the free compressive strength test without curing, the highest Qu value lies in the variation of a mixture of 4% wood ash + 4% cement of 1.013 kg/cm2 with a Cu value of 0.506 kg/cm2. Furthermore, the compressive strength value with 3 days curing, the highest Qu value lies in the variation of the mixture of 8% wood ash + 4% cement of 1.221 kg/cm2 with a Cu value of 0.610 kg/cm2.
