Abstract

This research is formulated on the following question "What are the similarities, dissimilarities, and teaching implication of English and Indonesian letter-writing?". The objectives of this research are to find out the similarities, dissimilarities, and teaching implication between English and Indonesian letter-writing. The researcher used a qualitative method design. In collecting the data, the researcher used documentations by asking students to write job application letters in English and Indonesian version. The researcher used 18 students as the subject of the research. In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative data analysis technique. The results showed that they were 5 similarities in terms of heading, salutation, body of the letter, complimentary close and signature, while dissimilarities occurred in heading and body of the letter. In addition, the teaching implications of this research is as the reference for English teachers to design writing teaching materials especially in teaching job application letter.
