Abstract
Clay soil is a soil that has a low carrying capacity, water greatly affects its physical and mechanical behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the characteristics of the soil before carrying out development on clay soil, one of the methods used is by stabilization. One way of stabilization is by using a mixture of chemicals, namely carbide waste. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence and increase in free compressive strength on clay soils that have been stabilized with carbide waste with a mixed percentage of 10%, 20% and 30% with a deepening period of 0 days, 7 days, and 14 days. The stages in this study include literature study, preparatory work including soil extraction, and carbide waste, preparation of tools and materials, manufacture of test objects, testing in the laboratory carried out with reference to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards, analyzing the results of the calculation of free compressive strength and soil compaction, which finally came to a conclusion The results of this test show that the addition of carbide waste can increase the carrying capacity of the soil which is quite high at a percentage of 30% of carbide waste, at a 14-day deepening of 4.364 kg / cm2 and a Cu value of 2.182 kg / cm2, while in the compaction test the most optimal percentage in a mixture of 30% carbide waste with a deepening period of 14 days obtained the maximum dry density value was obtained (ɣd max) of 1,426 gr/cm3 and the optimum moisture content value (Wopt) of 21.983%.
