Abstract
The use of additional materials as a mixture in the manufacture of concrete is growing. The material used also varies, depending on the expected results. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of adding pieces of polyethylene`terephthalate (PET) plastic bottle waste length 3cm width 1mm, length 3cm width 2mm and length 3cm width 3mm with a percentage increase of 0.5% as an alternative material to the strength of concrete. The research method was used by designing a concrete mixture composition for each piece of polyethylene`terephthalate (PET) plastic bottle waste then producing cylindrical concrete samples for testing the strength of the concrete. Furthermore, an analysis of the results of the testing and comparing the strength of each concrete composition produced. Based on the test results of the compressive strength results of cylindrical concrete, it was concluded that the greatest increase in compressive strength of 4.11% of normal concrete can be obtained with additional pieces of polyethylene`terephthalate (PET) plastic bottle waste length 3cm long by 2mm wide. Keywords: concrete, polyethylene`terephthalate (PET), compressive strength
