Abstract

PRODUCTION OF SYNTHETIC GAS FROM GASIFICATION PROCESS OF SUGAR FACTORY BIOMASS WASTE AS ALTERNATIVE ENERGY Syamsu Rizal, Muhammad Faizal, Erna Yuliwati * Chemical Engineering Study Program Master Program Postgraduate University of Muhammadiyah Palembang * Correcting author: deeyuliwati@gmail.com ABSTRACT At present in Indonesia there are approximately 60 sugar factories in operation, most of which are located on Java, especially East Java. All sugar mills are made from sugar cane. Sugarcane is very efficient in converting solar energy into chemical energy caused by the structure of cellulose. Every milling season, sugar mills emit liquid, solid and gas waste. Solid waste includes bagasse, dust from combustion of pulp in the kettle, solids from laboratory analysis, slices and drops. The sugar factory waste needs to be handled carefully and seriously so as not to pollute the environment. During this time the bagasse was directly used as fuel and the rest was left to rot. Sugarcane pulp is promising as an alternative fuel, but has several constraints to be used as fuel, namely large energy consumption in the collection, insufficient composition in it and low calorific value. It has been described above that research on bagasse biomass waste will be deepened in this thesis. Especially the modification of the process that will be used in this study, which aims to increase the conversion of biomass waste into alternative energy, in this case in the form of gas products using the gasification method. In this study, the utilization of bagasse into syngas will be carried out in the gasification process. Based on the results of the research that has been done, the more air is added, the more reactants react with carbon in bagasse to increase Syngas products but the gas content has high nitrogen (N2). The higher the gasification temperature it will increase the gas produced. The use of large amounts of air will increase the composition of CO2 and H2O gas because it is getting closer to complete combustion. Production of gasification combustible gas using 200 gram zeolite catalyst and 20 mL/min of water added at a temperature of 500oC. With a combustible and noncombustible gas ratio of 1.10. By using 200 gram bentonite catalyst and the addition of water 20, 30 and 40 mL/min, combustible syngas production tends to increase. But the combustible and noncombustible gas ratio is 0.14. Keywords: Sugarcane pulp, Gasification, Zeolite, Synthetic Gas.
