Abstract
Key words: Error Analysis, Passive Voice. This thesis, entitled “Error Analysis of Using Passive Voice of the Eleventh Grade Students at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang”. Formulation of the problems; (1) What type of error made by the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang using passive voice of simple past tense? (2) What is the most common error made by the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang using passive voice of simple past tentse?. Objectives of the study were to find out the types of error made the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang using passive voice of simple past tense and to find out the most common error made by the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang using passive voice of simple past tense. The population of this research was all the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang in the academic years of 2019/2020 which consisted of five classes, with the total number of population was 134 students. The samples of this research were 53 students taken based on purposive sampling technique. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The data was collected through the test that consisted of 40 questions. The finding of analysis showed that the total of students‟ error was 329. There were 67 errors of omissions (20,36%), 67 errors of additions (20,36%), 153 errors of misformations (46,50%), and 42 errors of misorderings (12,76%). The researcher concluded that the highest percentage of errors was error of misformation and it was the dominant error. From the explanation above, it means that the Eleventh Grade Students at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Palembang were still lack of understanding the English grammar, especially in using passive voice of past tense because English grammar and Indonesian grammar are quite different.
