Abstract

The assessment instruments used by several high school teachers in Palembang are still limited to the types of questions C1, C2, C3, and its paper-based application. This is due to the lack of guidelines for preparing HOTS questions and the low ability of teachers to use information technology. Based on this urgency, this study aimed to find out the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of interactive questions in measuring students' high order thinking skills. The development procedure using a 4-D model included the stages of defining, designing, developing and disseminating. The study was conducted on the tenth grade students of SMAN 4 Palembang, SMAN 9 Palembang, and SMAN 19 Palembang in the even semester 2018/2019. The used instruments of data collection were in the form of questionnaires, interviews, and interactive questions. Data analysis techniques used Microsoft Excel 2010 and Winsteps applications version 3.73.0. The results of the study showed that: 1) the results of the expert appraisal test found that the average Aiken’s V statistic values in order were 0.85, 0.88, and 0.92 with very high category; 2) questions functioned normal by using measuring/fit/valid, the reliability aspect of the question was good and there was no question that need to be corrected based on the empiric validity test results; 3) the question had a strong and positive response criteria for use, seen from the percentage of teacher and student responses; and 4) the question was effective interactive questions based on the results of student ability assessment, student response patterns, quality questions, and optimization of the use of interactive questions.
