Abstract
PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN SERAT SABUT KELAPA TERHADAP KUAT TEKAN DAN KUAT TARIK BELAH BETON ABSTRACT M Prawira Utama1, Erny Agusri2, Adji Sutama3 This study aimed to investigate the effect of adding coconut coir fiber on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete with a design strength of 25 MPa. The fiber content variations used were 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2% by weight of cement. Testing was conducted at 28 days using cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 30 cm. The fresh concrete test results showed that increasing the percentage of coconut coir fiber reduced the slump value from 10.20 cm for normal concrete to 5.50 cm for the 2% fiber variation, indicating a decrease in workability due to water absorption and increased friction among concrete particles. The compressive strength test results showed that normal concrete achieved an average compressive strength of 25.11 MPa. The addition of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% coconut coir fiber reduced the compressive strength to 22.55 MPa, 20.42 MPa, and 20.36 MPa, respectively. However, the 2% fiber variation increased the compressive strength to 25.51 MPa, which was approximately 1.59% higher than that of normal concrete. This improvement indicates that at a 2% fiber content, coconut coir fiber provides a bridging effect that helps restrain crack propagation within the concrete. The splitting tensile strength test results revealed that normal concrete had the highest value of 9.77 MPa, while the addition of fiber at 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% reduced the values to 3.07 MPa, 4.30 MPa, and 6.48 MPa, respectively. Nevertheless, the 2% fiber variation showed an increase in splitting tensile strength, reaching 8.73 MPa. Based on the overall analysis, the optimum coconut coir fiber content was found to be 2%, as it provided the best mechanical performance, with a characteristic compressive strength of 25.20 MPa and a characteristic splitting tensile strength of 8.43 MPa.
