Abstract

The Tegal Binangun Road and Kapten Abdullah Road intersection in Palembang City is an unsignalized intersection characterized by relatively high traffic density. This congestion is driven by activities associated with commercial areas and schools, as well as roadside friction caused by street vendors and the Tegal Binangun Morning Market. This study aims to analyze the performance of the unsignalized intersection based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (PKJI 2023). Primary data collection involved surveys of Average Daily Traffic (ADT), road geometry, and roadside friction, conducted over seven consecutive days between 06:00 and 18:00 WIB. Analysis results indicate that peak traffic volume occurred on Monday between 07:00 and 08:00 WIB, reaching 1,486 pcu/hour against an intersection capacity of 1,555 pcu/hour. This resulted in a degree of saturation of 0.95— indicating very poor intersection performance (approaching saturation or congestion)—an intersection delay of 17.1 seconds/pcu, and a queue probability range of 36.2%–71.4%. As a remedial measure, a simulation of an alternative solution was conducted, focusing on mitigating roadside friction by relocating the Tegal Binangun Morning Market. The simulation results showed an increase in capacity to 2,222 pcu/hour, a reduction in the degree of saturation to 0.66 (indicating stable flow conditions), a decrease in delay to 11.2 seconds/pcu, and a reduction in queue probability to the 17.9%–36.9% range.
