Abstract

Kata kunci: PBL-RQA, literasi genetika, bioteknologi, siswa kelas X Genetic literacy is an important ability because it helps students understand genetic concepts and relate them to the application of biotechnology. However, students’ genetic literacy needs to be improved through learning models that encourage them to actively read, ask questions, seek information, and solve problems. This study aimed to determine the effect of the PBL-RQA (Problem Based Learning-Reading Questioning Answering) model on improving the genetic literacy of tenth-grade students on biotechnology material at SMA NU Palembang. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach and a Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 27 students in the experimental class who were taught using the PBL-RQA (Problem Based Learning-Reading Questioning Answering) model and 26 students in the control class who were taught using the PjBL (Project Based Learning) model. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires, learning implementation observations, and genetic literacy tests. Data analysis involved normality, homogeneity, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed that the average genetic literacy score in the experimental class increased from 22.04 in the pretest to 65.37 in the posttest, while the control class increased from 15.77 to 34.62. All genetic literacy indicators in both classes showed improvement from the pretest to the posttest. In the experimental class, the highest percentage was found in the transmission indicator at 95%, while the lowest was in the evolution indicator at 28%. Meanwhile, in the control class, the highest percentage was found in the nature of the genetic material indicator at 62%, while the lowest was in the transmission indicator at 18%. The Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, the PBL-RQA (Problem Based Learning-Reading Questioning Answering) model had a significant effect on improving the genetic literacy of tenth-grade students on biotechnology material at SMA NU Palembang.
