Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of fly ash substitution with the addition of 1% polypropylene (PP) fiber on the durability of mortar under cyclic swamp water exposure. The research was conducted experimentally using 5×5×5 cm mortar cube specimens with various fly ash substitution levels as partial cement replacement. The evaluated parameters included compressive strength and density under normal conditions and after cyclic wetting–drying exposure using swamp water. The results showed that the incorporation of fly ash and polypropylene fiber significantly affected mortar durability. The optimum performance was achieved at 2% fly ash substitution (FA2), producing the highest compressive strength of 21.33 MPa under normal conditions and 24.80 MPa under cyclic conditions. Mortar density generally decreased with increasing fly ash content, particularly after cyclic exposure due to increased porosity. However, the reduction in density did not directly lead to a decrease in compressive strength. Overall, the combination of 2% fly ash substitution and 1% polypropylene fiber effectively improved the durability of mortar under cyclic swamp water conditions.
