Abstract
The rapid development of urban areas has increased the need for safe, comfortable, and integrated pedestrian facilities as part of the implementation of the Walkable City concept. The Sudirman Corridor in Palembang City is one of the busiest urban areas with high community activity, making it necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of its pedestrian facilities. This study aims to analyze the condition of pedestrian facilities, determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the Walkable City concept, identify the factors influencing its effectiveness, examine public perceptions of pedestrian facility quality, and provide recommendations for improving the quality of the area. This study employed a quantitative descriptive research method. The data were collected through field observations, questionnaires distributed to pedestrian users, documentation, and literature review. Data were analyzed using the Likert Scale, while the research instruments were tested through validity and reliability tests using SPSS software. The results indicate that the pedestrian facilities along the Sudirman Corridor are generally available and in reasonably good condition, including sidewalks, guiding blocks, street lighting, vegetation, benches, and crossing facilities. However, several problems remain, such as damaged sidewalks in certain sections, illegal parking on pedestrian paths, street vendors occupying sidewalks, and accessibility facilities for people with disabilities that are not yet optimal. The analysis shows that the overall effectiveness level of the Walkable City area reached 67%, which falls into the effective category. The factors influencing effectiveness include comfort, safety, security, accessibility, connectivity, and the completeness of pedestrian facilities. Therefore, improvements are required, including repairing damaged pedestrian infrastructure, controlling illegal parking and street vendors, enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities, and conducting regular maintenance of pedestrian facilities to improve the quality of the pedestrian environment.
