Abstract
Pervious concrete has been developed to reduce surface runoff and waterlogging caused by the diminishing infiltration areas. Coarse aggregate substantially influences the balance between compressive strength and permeability in pervious concrete, while the local aggregate from Sungai Lintang Kiri, Kabupaten Empat Lawang, holds potential for utilization but remains insufficiently studied. This research aims to analyze the characteristics of this aggregate and the effect of its size variation on the compressive strength and permeability of pervious concrete in order to obtain the optimal composition. The research was conducted experimentally at the Materials and Concrete Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, using coarse aggregate of three size fractions (A: 19.5–12.5 mm, B: 12.5–9.5 mm, and C: 9.5–4.75 mm) combined in several proportion variations. Cylindrical specimens diameter150 × 300 mm were tested at 28 days of age for compressive strength and permeability, referring to the ACI 522R-10 standard. The aggregate satisfied the requirements for pervious concrete material, exhibiting uniform gradation in accordance with ACI 522R-10. The highest compressive strength was obtained in the B50C50 variation (7.32 MPa), while permeability ranged from 7.87 to 19.78 mm/s, exhibiting a pattern inversely related to compressive strength; all variations remained effective in facilitating rainwater infiltration. The B50C50 variation (50% aggregate B and 50% aggregate C) yielded the optimal balance, namely the highest compressive strength (7.32 MPa) with a permeability (11.01 mm/s) that remained within the ACI 522R-10 reference range, and is therefore recommended as the optimal composition for pervious concrete based on local aggregate from Sungai Lintang Kiri.
