Abstract

ANALISIS HUBUNGAN SIFAT INDEKS TANAH GAMBUT TERHADAP KUAT GESER MENGGUNAKAN DIRECT SHEAR TEST ABSTRAK Noufadhea Andina1 , M. Arfan2 , Verinazul Septriansyah3 Peat soil has a high water content, low specific gravity, and relatively low shear strength, requiring special consideration in construction planning. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the index properties of peat soil and its shear strength using the Direct Shear Test. Soil samples were collected from the Mata Merah area, Palembang City, and tested for water content, specific gravity, bulk density, ash content, fiber content, cohesion (c), and internal friction angle (φ). The relationship between the index properties and shear strength was analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that the peat soil was classified as sapric peat, with a water content of 202.529–208.836%, specific gravity of 1.438–1.502, fiber content of 27.44–30.01%, and ash content of 25.26–27.76%. The Direct Shear Test results showed cohesion values of 0.059–0.101 kg/cm² and internal friction angles of 7.1°–11.7°. These results indicate that the peat soil at the study site has relatively low shear strength. The regression analysis showed that specific gravity had the strongest relationship with the internal friction angle, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.9594, while the relationships between the index properties and cohesion were relatively weak. Therefore, specific gravity was identified as the index property with the strongest influence on the shear strength of peat soil, particularly the internal friction angle, and can be used as an indicator for evaluating the mechanical behavior of peat soil in construction planning.
