Abstract

PENGARUH VARIASI RASIO FLY ASH DAN AGREGAT HALUS TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK MIKROSTRUKTUR MORTAR GEOPOLIMER BERBASIS SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE (SEM) INTISARI Miranda Juwita Sari (112022034) – Teknik Sipil - Pengaruh Variasi Rasio Fly Ash dan Agegat Halus Terhadap Karakteristik Mikrostruktur Mortar Geopolimer Berbasis Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). THE EFFECT OF VARIATIONS IN THE RATIO OF FLY ASH AND FINE AGGREGATE ON MICROTRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF GEOPOLYMER MORTAR AS OBSERVED BY SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE (SEM) ABTRACT Miranda Juwita Sari (112022034) – Civil Engineering - The Effect Of Variations in the Ratio Of Fly Ash and Fine Aggregate On Microstructural Characterisitcs of Geopolymer Mortar as Observed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Environmental sustainability concerns have driven the development of fly ash- based geopolymer mortar as a subtitute for portland cement industry. Ingeopolymer mortar, the ratio of fly ash to fine aggregate effects the mechanical properties and microstructure of the mortar, such as dompressive the effect of varying fly ash and fine aggregate ratios on geopolymer mortar and to analyze the microstrukture using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The study employed an laboratory experimental method using fly ash as the precursor. The alkali activator solution consisted of a combination of sodium hydrixide (NaOH) with as molarity of 14 M and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) in a 2,5 : 1 ratio. A superplasticizer was added at a concentration of 2 % by weight of the fly ash. The variations in the fly ash to fine aggregate ratio used were 1:0,5, 1:1, 1:1,5, 1:2, and 1:2,5. The test specimens were 50X50X50 mm cubes cured at 60°C for 24 hours, testing included bulk density, compressive strength, and SEM microstructural analysis at 28 days. The test result showed that the highest compressive strength was obtained in the 1:1 mixture, at 48,67 MPa, with an average bulk density of 2184,00 kg/m3. SEM result indicated that the 1:1 mixture had a denser microstructure with pore sizes of 0,6- 1,2 µm and microcracks of 0,7-2,0 µm. Meanwhile, the other variations exhibited a desrease in compressive strength and density due to the presence of voids and large microcracks.. Thuse, it can be concluded that the 1:1 fly ash to fine aggregate ratio is optimal because it produces geopolymer mortar with a denser microstructure, smaller pore and microcrack sizes, and high compressive strength.
