Abstract

THE EFFECT OF ADDING BLOOD CLAM SHELLS (ANADARA GRANOSA) AND SUPERPLASTICIZER ON CONCRETE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH ABSTRACT Azun Anzasmara1, Mira Setiawati2, Marice Agustini3 Along with the development of construction technology, various studies are continuously conducted to develop concrete mixtures to have better performance while being more environmentally friendly. One of the efforts that are widely developed is the utilization of waste as an additional material in concrete mixtures. The utilization of blood clam shell waste (anadara granosa) which is rich in calcium carbonate (CaCO3) has the potential to be used as an additional material for concrete to support environmentally friendly construction, which is combined with a superplasticizer to maintain workability. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding blood clam shells in variations of 0%, 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5%, and 4.5% with a constant superplasticizer content of 0.8% on the compressive strength of concrete with a design quality of f'c 25 MPa at the curing age of 14 and 28 days. The test results show that the maximum compressive strength value is achieved at the optimum variation of 2.5% blood clam shells + 0.8% superplasticizer, which is 25.84 MPa at the age of 14 days and peaks at 27.22 MPa at the age of 28 days. The addition of mussel shells above 2.5% results in a decrease in compressive strength due to the flattened geometry of the shell particles, which forms an internal weak plane when subjected to axial loads. It can be concluded that the limit of the proportion of blood mussel shell addition that works effectively and optimally in increasing the compressive strength of concrete is 2.5%.
