Abstract

STABILIZATION OF INORGANIC CLAY (CH) USING FLY ASH AND EGGSHELL POWDER AS SUBSTITUTION MATERIALS: A SHEAR STRENGTH EVALUATION ABSTRACT M. Andrika Saputra1, M. Arfan2, Nurnilam Oemiati3 Inorganic clay (CH) has high plasticity, low bearing capacity, and low shear strength, requiring stabilization before being used as subgrade material. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fly ash and eggshell powder on the shear strength of clay soil and to determine the optimum mixture based on the Unconsolidated Undrained (UU) Triaxial Test. The mixtures consisted of 10%, 12%, and 14% fly ash with a constant 12% eggshell powder, followed by curing periods of 7 and 14 days. The tests included soil physical properties, standard compaction, and UU triaxial testing. The natural soil was classified as CH according to USCS and A-7-6 according to AASHTO. The results showed that the addition of fly ash and eggshell powder improved the soil shear strength. Cohesion increased from 1.02 kg/cm² to 1.57 kg/cm², while the internal friction angle increased from 25.24° to 28.15°. The optimum mixture was 12% fly ash + 12% eggshell powder with 14 days of curing.
