Abstract

This study focuses on evaluating Using English Cartoon in Teaching Reading Comprehension to the Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Lintang Kanan. The formulation of the problem was “Is it effective to use English Cartoon Video in improving Students Reading Comprehension at SMP Negeri 3 Lintang Kanan”?. The main objective of this research was to determine whether or not the use of English Cartoon Videos is effective to improve students reading comprehension to the Eight Grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Lintang Kanan. The sample of this research was 48 students by purposive sampling. They divided into the control and experiment class. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 25.0. The post-test mean for experiment class was 85.75, which has higher than the control class mean score of 63.25. The t-test result was -9.222, which exceeded the 0.05 significance level, indicating that the null hypothesis H0 was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis Ha was accepted. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the reading English cartoon is effective to improve students reading skill compared to traditional teaching method.
