Abstract
Asphalt is one of the alternatives for road pavement that is more economical and environmentally friendly compared to hot mix asphalt; however, it has weaknesses in terms of relatively low density and stability values. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding fly ash and stone dust on the density and stability of emulsified asphalt mixtures. The research method includes mixtures without additives, the addition of 2% fly ash, and a combination of 2% fly ash with stone dust at 2%, 4%, and 6%. The parameters analyzed include density, Marshall stability, flow, Marshall Quotient, and volumetric properties of the mixture. The results show that the addition of 2% fly ash increases the density, while the combination of 2% fly ash and 2% stone dust produces the highest density and stability values. Meanwhile, the addition of stone dust at 4% and 6% leads to a decrease in the mixture performance. All Marshall parameters at the optimum variation still meet the applicable specifications. Microstructural analysis using SEM indicates a denser internal structure with lower void content. Therefore, the combination of 2% fly ash and 2% stone dust is considered the most effective in improving the performance of emulsified asphalt mixtures and has the potential to support the utilization of industrial waste in road construction.
