Abstract

This thesis was entitled “Exploring Students’ Attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence in English Language Learning: A Study at Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in Indonesia” The problem of this study was whether students held positive, negative attitudes toward the use of AI in English language learning. The objectives of this study were to measure students' overall attitudes, identify aspects of English learning where AI is perceived as most useful, examine students' concerns, and analyze their readiness to integrate AI into future learning or teaching practices. The population of this study was undergraduate students of the English Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in Indonesia. The sample consisted of 50 students selected through convenience sampling technique. The instrument used was a Likert-scale questionnaire focusing on perceived usefulness, ease of use, ethical concerns, and behavioral intention. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that students generally had positive attitudes toward AI, especially in writing and vocabulary learning, but expressed concerns about plagiarism, accuracy, and over-reliance. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that while students perceive AI as a supportive tool in English language learning, its integration requires clear institutional guidance and ethical use policies. Therefore, AI can enhance English language learning if implemented responsibly and supported by appropriate training.
