Abstract

His study investigates the effect of adding sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) and cement on improving the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of silt soil. Soil samples were collected from Kota Bumi Village, Tanjung Lubuk District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The stabilizing materials consisted of 7% SBA with cement variations of 8%, 9%, 10%, 11%, and 12%. Laboratory tests conducted at the Soil Mechanics Laboratory of Muhammadiyah University of Palembang included moisture content, Atterberg limits, Standard Proctor compaction, and UCS tests at curing periods of 0, 7, and 14 days. The results show that combining SBA and cement significantly improves the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. The liquid limit decreased from 50.84% to 41.47%, and the plasticity index from 12.11% to 9.76%. The optimum moisture content decreased from 20.46% to 11.23%, while the maximum dry density increased from 1.511 g/cm³ to 1.786 g/cm³. The UCS value increased from 2.144 kg/cm² (natural soil) to 3.855 kg/cm² at the 7% SBA + 12% cement mixture, representing an improvement of approximately 80%. Overall, the mixture of 7% sugarcane bagasse ash and 12% cement provides the optimal composition for enhancing the stability, density, and compressive strength of silt soil, making it suitable for subgrade or road base construction.
