Abstract
21st-century education requires critical thinking skills supported by high learning motivation. In fact, the results of the learning needs analysis of SMA Negeri 3 Mesuji Raya and SMA Negeri 2 Mesuji Makmur involving 40 11th-grade students and two Biology teachers showed that viruses were the most difficult topic for students to understand, with a percentage of 74.4% based on student questionnaires and 100% based on teacher perceptions. Additionally, the majority of students (92.3%) reported that they were more motivated to learn when the material was presented through real-life case examples relevant to their surroundings. The analysis also revealed a gap in students' learning motivation and low critical thinking skills, which was reinforced by the finding that learning was still dominated by the use of conventional LKM. Based on these findings, learning innovations were needed that could improve students' conceptual understanding, motivation, and critical thinking skills. The purpose of the research on developing LKM on virus material based on PBL integrated with educational visits to health centers was to improve students' motivation and critical thinking skills. The research population of SMAN 3 Mesuji Raya was the sample of class X students, XA and X B. The research model used 4D, referring to Thiagarajan, which stands for define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and observation sheets. The results of the definition indicated that teachers and students required teaching materials in the form of LKM on virus-related material, integrated with PBL and educational visits to health centers, to help improve motivation and critical thinking skills. The design results made critical thinking questions and LKM on virus material based on PBL integrated with educational visits to health centers. The results of the product development assessment by language experts were 95,8%, material experts 89.6%, learning device experts 91.6%, teaching material experts 96,8%, evaluation experts: 89.9%. The results of the disseminated N-gain score for the experimental class learning motivation variable were 0.842 (High), and the experimental class critical thinking variable was 0.689 (Medium). To test the validity of the instrument, 10 questions were tested on grade XI students; there were 3 invalid questions because the calculated r value < r table. The results of the reliability test showed a Cronbach's alpha value of 0,756 which falls within the good category. The practicality level of the PBL-based virus material LKM integrated with educational visits to health centers reached 97,50%, and the results of the student readability analysis were 83,37%. The results of this analysis indicate that the use of PBL-based virus material LKM integrated with educational visits to health centers is very valid, practical, and effective for use by teachers and students to increase learning motivation and critical thinking skills.
