Abstract

Retention ponds are ponds that hold or absorb the temporary water in it, then discharge it into the river, which can reduce the peak of flooding. There are two types of retention ponds according to the material covering the walls and bottom of the pond, namely natural ponds and artificial ponds. On Tanjung Burung Road, water evaporation often occurs in the retention pond, resulting in flooding in the area. Floods can occur due to overflows of rivers, reservoirs, lakes, seas or other bodies of water that inundate lowlands and basins that were not previously inundated. The main cause of flooding is because the rainfall is too high and the capacity of the retention pond is inadequate, so that water evaporation occurs in the retention pond. The basic concept of a retention pond is to hold a volume of water. Specifically, the retention pond will reduce the amount of flooding in the river, so that the potential for over topping which results in levee failure and river overflow is detected. The results of the calculation of Qflood for the inlet is 11.621 m³/second, for Qflood for the outlet is 8.397 m³/second. The condition is that only the inlet door is opened, the incoming flow rate is 11.621 m³/second. When the inlet outlet door is open the flow rate accommodated is 4.40 m³/second. When only the inlet door is opened with a discharge rate of 11.621 m³/second, it takes 541.58 seconds or 9.02 minutes to fill the pool capacity. Meanwhile, when the inlet and outlet doors are open with a discharge of 4.40 m³/second to meet the pool capacity, it takes 1600.86 seconds or 26.68 minutes. Keywords: bird retention pond, capacity
