Abstract

Tofu liquid waste comes from the process of soaking, washing the soybeans, washing the equipment for the tofu production process, screening and printing the tofu. Tofu waste liquid contains pretty high organic impurities such as protein and amino acids. The purposes of this study were to determine and analyze the effect of electric voltage, current and length of time with the electrocoagulation process, NaCL salt addition, using perforated aluminum plates and using alum to neutralize pH, and reduce TSS, BOD and COD levels in liquid waste treatment process of tofu industry in batch. The electrocoagulation reactor was attached with a cable connected to the power supply, then connected to a current source of 2 amps with a variable voltage of 10, 15 and 20 Volts for 15, 30, 45, 60 minutes. The addition of NaCl table salt were 4 grams, 7 grams and 10 grams and the use of an aluminum plate was given a voltage of 15 Volts for 45 minutes as well as the use of alum was by slow stirring for 45 minutes. The results of this study revealed that the optimum conditions obtained were the Electrocoagulation method for a voltage of 20 Volts and 60 minutes with an increase in pH from 6.8 to 8.8, a decrease in TSS of 65% from 0.40 ppm to 0.14 ppm, a decrease in BOD of 76.92% from 325 ppm to 75 ppm, a decrease in COD of 47.69% from 260 ppm to 136 ppm. The addition of NaCl increased the pH by 7.6 at 10 grams, decreased the TSS by 57.5% from 0.40 ppm to 0.17 ppm, decreased BOD by 70.76% from ppm to 95 ppm equivalent to 70.76%, decreased COD from 260 ppm equivalent to 38.46%. Using an aluminium plate with a voltage of 15 volts for 45 minutes increased pH from 6.8 to 8, decreased TSS by 82.5% from 0.40 ppm to 0.07 ppm, decreased BOD by 60% from 325 ppm to 130 ppm, decreased COD by 29.23% from 260 ppm to 184 ppm. For the addition of 0.73 gr/1 liter of alum, the increase in pH decreased from 6.8 to 6.4, decreased TSS by 92.75% from 0.40 to 0.029 ppm, decreased BOD by 69.23% from 325 ppm to 100 ppm, decreased COD by 27.69% from 260 ppm to 188 ppm. The results obtained indicated that these results were in accordance with PermenLH No. standards. 5 of 2014 concerning the quality of soybean wastewater treatment used to produce tofu.
