Abstract

In this study, the process of forming struvite crystals (MgNH4PO4.6H2O) from synthesis waste and human urine uses an electrolysis process. Electrolysis is a chemical process that uses an electric current to trigger a non-spontaneous redox reaction in an electrolyte solution or on an electrode surface. This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of the optimum pH and stress in reducing the concentration of NH4 on the formation of struvite crystals (MgNH4PO4.6H2O). In reducing the concentration of NH4 in the formation of struvite from synthesis waste and urine waste, the electrolysis method using a magnesium plate anode and a graphite carbon plate cathode was investigated based on three initial pH variations (8, 9, and 10) and three voltage variations (6, 9, and 15 Volts). In order to determine the decrease in the concentration of NH4 and the formation of struvite in this study, the analysis methods of spherotometry and SEM-EDX (Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray) were used. The results showed that the effects of variations in pH and voltage affected the decrease in the concentration of NH4 and the weight of the struvite product. The most optimal decrease in the concentration of NH4 in synthesis waste and urine at a variation of pH 9 and 15 volts The struvite product of synthesis waste is 0.740 gr, and urine is 5,673 gr.
