Abstract

Struvite is a white crystal known chemically as magnesium ammonium phosphate hexahydrate (MgNH4PO4.6H2O). Struvite can be used as fertilizer because of the phosphate (PO4) content in it. Tempeh industrial wastewater has a fairly high PO4 content, making tempeh industrial wastewater a potential struvite fertilizer forming material. Formation of struvite fertilizer is done by electrolysis process. This process connects electrical energy at the anode and cathode, which attracts ions so that redox reactions occur. MAP (Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate) solution is prepared by reacting tempe industry wastewater, Magnesium Chloride (MgCl2), and Ammonium Hydroxide (NH4OH). The MAP ratio used is 1:1:1. Stirring speed was set at 120 rpm, pH 9 with a voltage of 15 volts. Struvite crystals were analyzed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Good struvite formation is at pH 9 with a voltage of 15 volts. The higher the voltage used, the stronger the electrolytic reaction that is formed so that the more ions that form the redox reaction.
