Abstract

The physical properties of clay are high swelling shrinkage properties that require good treatment to increase the bearing capacity of the soil and its stability. One way to overcome this problem is to stabilize the soil using added materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and increase in the free compressive strength of the subgrade on unreinforced clay and soil that has been stabilized using cement and fiber. The soil samples used in the test were taken from Sungai Waru Village, Sungai Dua Village, Rambutan District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Then tested the characteristics of the subgrade and the free compressive strength test, using the SNI 03-6887-2002 method. For testing the mechanical properties of the soil (compacting and free compressive strength) mixed variations were added, namely plastic waste and a mixture of cement with the percentage of plastic waste 1%, 2%, and 3% and the percentage of cement mixture 5% and 10% of the dry weight of the soil. From testing the mixture of cement and PET plastic with a percentage of 5%, 10% cement and 1%, 2%, 3% PET plastic, it was found that the longer the curing process, the greater the compressive strength of the soil. The greatest compressive strength lies in 7 days of curing with the highest compressive strength in the addition of a mixture of 10% cement + 2% PET plastic, which is 3.060 kg/cm² with a Cu value of 1.53003 kg/cm2. In the results of the free compressive strength test without curing, the highest Qu value lies in the variation of a mixture of 10% cement + 2% PET plastic of 0.98700 kg/cm2 with a Cu value of 0.49350 kg/cm2. Furthermore, the compressive strength value with 3 days curing, the highest Qu value lies in the variation of the mixture of 10% cement + 2% PET plastic of 1.49747kg/cm2 with a Cu value of 0.74874 kg/cm2.
