Abstract

Lightning is a natural event that is the process of releasing an electric charge that occurs in the atmosphere. This discharge event will occur due to the formation of concentrations of positive and negative charges in the cloud or the difference in charge with the earth's surface. Security against the danger of lightning strikes is increasing, increasing security is necessary because the area in Indonesia is a tropical area which is the area with the most rainfall that causes lightning, including the Prabumulih oil tank, which is one of the areas where lightning strikes can occur. The purpose of this paper is to analyze lightning strikes against the Pertamina oil tank security system in order to avoid damage due to lightning strikes. The results of the calculation of the lightning protection system with the method of protection angle and scroll ball will show the relationship between each height of the air pole, the radius of protection and the angle of protection when the air is placed in the middle or at the edge of the tank. When three electrodes are connected together so that the length becomes 9 m obtained a grounding value of 11.367 . This value is greater than the grounding standard, which is < 5 . Meanwhile, if using the calculation of the lightning rod grounding system using the rod electrode method as much as 1, 2, 3 electrodes with a distance of each electrode as far as 6 m. by using 3 3/4 inch diameter rod electrodes planted 6 m apart each or obtaining a grounding value that is in accordance with the standard, which is below 5 .
