Abstract

ABSTRACK Paving block (concrete brick) is a composition of building materials made from a mixture of portland cement or similar hydraulic adhesives, water, and aggregates with or without other additives (SNI 03-0691-1996). Garbage cannot be separated from our lives. If not managed properly it will have a negative impact on living things and the environment. One way to manage it is to utilize the waste itself, such as using PET plastic waste such as drinking water bottles as an added ingredient in the form of a mixture of paving blocks to improve the quality of paving blocks. Based on SNI 03-0691-1996 regarding Paving Blocks, there are 3 kinds of tests, namely compressive strength, wear resistance, and water absorption. In this study, only water absorption and compressive strength were tested. Testing water absorption and compressive strength using hexagon paving blocks with a side length of 10 cm and a thickness of 6 cm as many as 15 pieces. The results of this study indicate that the average water absorption value for normal paving blocks is 4.21% for paving blocks mixed with PET plastic with the percentage of adding PET plastic 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, namely 4.81%, 6, 11%, 8.92%, and 9.06% and the average compressive strength value for normal paving blocks is 19.63 MPa for paving blocks mixed with PET plastic with the percentage of adding plastic 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, namely 18.03Mpa, 16.94Mpa, 15.52Mpa, and 14.75Mpa. Keywords : paving blocks, PET type plastic waste, water absorption, compressive strength.
