Abstract

AC-WC characteristic of marshall plastic waste compaction temperature Asphalt Concrete Wearing Course (AC-WC) is a surface pavement layer that functions as a leveling layer of the asphalt concrete layer (laston) which is at the very top. AC-WC layers often receive great stress and strain generated by the interaction between traffic and asphalt. One of the factors that often occur that can affect the quality and performance of concrete is the change in temperature during the compaction process. The process of implementing temperature compaction in the field often does not reach the desired temperature due to several factors such as the location of the AMP mixture of asphalt-concrete mixture not using tarpaulin and the influence of weather. As a result of the compaction temperature that is not in accordance with the concrete layer, it quickly breaks down in the form of cracks and is developed before the design life is reached. In an effort to improve the performance of asphalt concrete, it is necessary to add additional materials to the asphalt mixture, one of which is plastic waste because of its thermoplastic nature, which is when it becomes soft and increases again after it cools down. This study aims to describe (1) the characteristics of the AC-WC concrete material (2) the characteristics of the AC-wWC asphalt concrete mixture with added plastic waste (3) the optimum compaction temperature that occurs in the mixture in terms of marshall parameters. Inspection of AC-WC concrete materials was carried out for the manufacture of Optimum Asphalt Content (KAO) specimens with variations in asphalt content of 5%, 6%, and 7%. Then made KAO test objects with variations in the levels of plastic waste 6% and 8%. Styrofoam mixing for the manufacture of test objects using the dry method. Furthermore, the specimens were made with variations in the compaction temperature of 115oC, 130oC, 145oC, 160oC and 175oC. The results of this study indicate (1) The materials used in this study meet the 2010 Bina Marga specifications. (2) The MQ VMA and VFA values tend to increase along with the increase in plastic content, while the flow and VIM values tend to decrease. The optimum level of plastic waste is 10% with the value of flow VIM VMA VFA and MQ meeting the specifications of the Directorate General of Highways 2010. (3) The optimum compaction temperature with the addition of the optimum level of plastic waste is 155oC. The value increases to a maximum point then decreases. High compaction temperature can also increase the value of flow MQ and VFA. On the other hand, the values of VIM and VMA decreased with increasing compaction temperature.
